People always say don’t judge a book by its cover, yet constantly, we all do it. We pick up a book and immediately, by instinct, we judge it by what we see. It is the same for all things in life. It is only human nature to judge things based on appearance. We look at how someone or something appears, and without even trying, we make assumptions or judge that thing, person, or situation. Throughout my semester in English 10A, I have come across many situations in which appearance affects the thoughts or lives of characters in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time-Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Merchant of Venice, and our Holocaust Unit. The first book we read, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time-Indian, appearance definitely played a roll. The biggest factor was the white people judging the poor Indians. They all immediately assumed that someone like Junior, that was a poor Indian from the reservation, was automatically dumb and had no future ahead of him. Yes, in most cases this was true, but that does not mean every Indian is not capable of having a good future. Although he might claim that he was creating the monster to advance the uses of science or even for the betterment of humankind, he really created the monster out of his own arrogance. After creating the monster he said it was ugly and avoided it. Then after his creature started murdering innocent people he wanted to kill it. Even after he realized that it was his abandonment that had the monster bent on revenge.

Thomas Becket Paper Thomas Becket Paper Thomas Becket’s murder was extremely influential to modern Britain, as we know it today. Becket’s murder had effects on both Canterbury as well as England as a whole. Thomas Becket was born in 1118 in a rather wealthy family, his father now an English merchant, had previous been sheriff in London. He was highly educated due to his family’s monetary status even going to study law in Paris before joining the house of Theobald the archbishop of Canterbury at that time. In 1154, Becket became close friends with the king Henry II who then appointed him as chancellor. In 1161, following Theobald’s death, Henry II saw an opportunity to extend his power in England. While acting as chancellor Becket had always acted upon Henry II’s will, Henry expected this would continue if he appointed Becket to Archbishop of Canterbury, the highest position in the church beneath the pope himself. While Theobald had always taken the view that the Church and the Crown should co-operate, Henry did not agree with this practice. Henry petitioned the pope who agreed, so Becket was ordained as a Bishop and then made Archbishop of Canterbury. Henry II would not be happy for long though, while Becket had always conceded as a pawn in the past as chancellor he took his new position in the church extremely seriously, even rejecting the luxuries and wealth that came with the position and passing them on to others. In 1163, the church court acquitted Canon whom had been accused of the murder of a knight. The public cried out for justice and the Canon was then brought to the royal court. Becket protested this because the Canon had already been tried and this undermined the Church’s authority. Henry proposed that clergy convicted of serious crimes in the church court should be â€Å"deprived the protection of the church† and sent to the royal court for punishment, although once again this undermined the entire idea of clerical immunity. The first person who influences Macbeth into his sin is not really a person at all.   The weird sisters, as is their art, wreak havoc with Macbeth’s mind and life.   From the moment they are introduced, their every word affects Macbeth’s actions.   They are the characters that put the idea of becoming king in Macbeth’s head to begin with: â€Å"All hail, Macbeth!   Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!   / All hail, Macbeth!   Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!   / All hail, Macbeth!   Hail to thee, that shalt be King hereafter!   (1.3.48-50).†Ã‚   By addressing Macbeth first as he is, then with a title that he is but does not yet know of, and finally with a title he must take action to attain, they encourage him to take the actions necessary.   Their words are a promise to him that he will succeed if he murders Duncan.   Of course, the weird sisters are not responsible only for the first blood that covers Macbeth’s hands.   It is the s isters’ prediction that puts Macbeth on the course to kill Macduff: â€Å"Macbeth!   Macbeth!   Macbeth!   Beware Macduff!   Beware the Thane of Fife.

Dyslexia is a learning disability in which people have difficulty reading, writing, and even in subjects such a math and music. In my case, I found that subjects such as reading and writing were harder for me compared to other kids my age. I was half way through my fourth grade year when I was diagnosed with dyslexia. While at first this was something I hated about myself. Now being dyslexic is something that makes me who I am today, and this is something I should never be ashamed of. By the time I was in 1st grade all of my friends were learning to read and write, while I tried my hardest to just get by. Yet after every single spelling test I would receive a failing grade or a barely passing grade, and for me this was abnormal as I was a straight â€Å"A† student in everything else. While my grades continued to fall, my mom started to believe that I was just not trying hard enough. For the next three years, my mother started tutoring me every day after school. Each and every day after school my mother would make me write my spelling words ten times each, and when that did not make any change, I began to study ever single moment of the day. Sometimes I even studied in the shower, but sadly I was still falling behind in certain subjects. This persisted on for three more years, when I was in 3rd grade when my mom finally gave up with the school I was at and sent me to one that she believed had a better education system.
